Joachim Schneeweiss was born 3 June 1927 in Hannover, Germany.
He was the eldest son of Jakob Joseph Schneeweiss (5/9/1894 to 11/6/1967) and Brucha Schneeweiss (nee Brand) (18/9/1896 to 21/3/1995). Jakon was born in Dolina, and Brach was born in Tarnobzeg. Joachim had an elder sister Rita, born in 1925, a yoinger sister Jenta Rosy (who died from Diptheria in the mid 1930s), and a younger brother Ismar Yehudi, born in 1930.
Joachim's Hebrew name was Yechiel ben Yaakov Yosef Halevi.
He was a witness to the rise of Adolf Hitler, and the Nazis in 1933, and recalled the events of Kristallnacht vividly throughout his life, as well as his experiences of anti-semitism in Nazi Germany of the 1930s. For a short time following Kristallnacht he and his younger brother Ismar went to a Jewish Children's Home in Ter Hejde, Holland, before reuniting with his parents and older sister Rita in 1939 prior to sailing from Genoa, Italy to Sydney Australia, arriving on 23 June 1939 1939.
The Schneeweiss family established their home in Penkivil Street, Bondi. Joachim first attended Bondi Public School, followed by Randwick Boys High, and finally Sydney Baoys High School. He skipped the final year at Sydney High, by sitting, without the knowledge of the principal, for the Sydney University Entrance examinations, able then to enter the Faculty of Medicine, from where he graduated in 1950. Amongst his fellow students were colleagues, many of whom became life-long frfiends, including Dr Oswald Tofler (Ossie), who passed away in 2014.
Whilts completing his post-graduate studies in London at Hammersmith Hospital he met and married Sybil Valerie Jackson in 1960, the only child of the late Eileen Ruth Silmam (nee Levy). Together with Sybil's dog Brandy they arrived in Australia in 1961.
Their first son Geejay (Gerald Jakob) was born in 1962, followed by David Jonathan (1964) and Daniel Peter (1967).
Sybil and Joachim became grandparents for the first time when Daniel and his wife Hagit (nee Arkin) had their first child Illor in 199?????, followed by three more children Yanir, Elbar and Keidar. David and his wife Joanna (nee Breacher) delivered twins Tali (middle name? and Ben Joseph in 2006???

Joachim was active in the local Australian Jewish community from an early age in a number of organisations becoming the Sydney based President of the Executive Council of Australian Jewry [ECAJ] Executive Council of Australian Jewry for two terms, the first 1977-1978 and 1981-1982. He resigned a few weeks shy of completing his second term due to internal Jewish Community fighting particularly with the Melbourne Zionist leadership. Following on the ECAJ he became a part-time member of the Anti-Discrimination Board of NSW (during the Presudency of Mrs Carmel Niland), a member of the Medical Board of NSW, the Administrative Decisions Tribula, and was appointed by Prime Minister Bob Hawke to Australian Council for Multicultural Affairs [ACMA]https://www.destinationaustralia.gov.au/photographs/photograph-7501201.
In 1989 he was was awarded an AM (Member of the Order of Australia) for "services to the community, particularly the Jewish community. His investiture was done by then Governor-General Mr Bill Hayden.
