Amasya University is a State University established in Amasya with the Law No. 5467 on the establishment of 15 new universities, which was published in the Official Gazette dated March 17, 2006 and numbered 26111.

The foundation of Amasya University was laid with the Faculty of Education (1974-1975), which was established by the Ministry of National Education in 1974. In 1975, the Ministry of National Education established Amasya Vocational School (1975-1976).

In 1981, with the exchange of YÖK, Faculty of Education and Amasya Vocational School were connected to Ondokuz Mayıs University. In the same year, Amasya School of Health (1992-1993) and Merzifon Vocational School (1991-1992), a process consisting of "School of Education", were opened under the Faculty of Education of Dokuz Mayıs University.

With the year 2021, it has 8 faculties, 8 vocational colleges, 3 and 1 colleges per year.

As of the 2020 - 2021 Academic Year, there are a total of 16,191 students at the University. 8,412 associate degree, 6,689 undergraduate, 1,062 master's degree, 28 doctorate education.

It has 66 associate degree, 28 undergraduate, 28 graduate and 8 doctorate programs in total.

IT infrastructure

Every Amasya University student can benefit widely from the entire information infrastructure of the university, including the internet, e-mail and local network. Each student has an e-mail address with the extension < student_no>@ogrenci.amasya.edu.tr.With this e-mail address, 110 wireless network devices in all campuses of the university can be connected to the internet via the eduroam service.
