The Mole (#tmph) is a Philippine reality game show that will air on GMA Network on 2023. This will be hosted by Atom Araullo. It is based on the Belgian version of the same name.
Format
editThe Filipino version of The Mole involves twelve contestants (as opposed to 10 in Belgian version). During each episode, the contestants participate in a number of challenges (referred to as "assignments"), each assigned a monetary value. However, one of these contestants has been selected by production to be the Mole; it's his or her job is to try to prevent the other players from winning assignments without revealing himself or herself to others. The Mole may be told ahead of time of how to do this or what challenges to expect, while at other times the Mole must decide whether to intervene or not.
At the end of each episode, the contestants take a quiz regarding the identity of the Mole and his or her involvement in the previous activities. The player who scores the lowest on this quiz, or was slowest to answer in case of a tie, is eliminated from the game. The winner of the game is the one that answers the most questions correctly on the final quiz given when there are only three players remaining (including the Mole).
While success in the assignments is important in order to build up potential winnings, it is also critical to stay in the game by scoring better than opponents on the quiz, usually by attempting to draw their suspicions of the Mole's identity toward oneself. Since the Mole must use subterfuge to misdirect attention from his/her attempts to derail the team, disingenuous attempts to emulate the Mole must be subtle, while still noticeable and suspicious.
Challenges
editSimilar to other reality shows, The Mole features challenges in which the players received money that was added to a group pot which only one person could win. This is referred as "assignments" throughout the show (parts of an assignment is called 'minigames') However, unlike challenges in other reality shows, the ones seen on The Mole offered players ways to disrupt the game, as well as ways of disguising their betrayal.
To disrupt the group even more, exemptions and jokers are offered at some point of the game. If a contestant receives an "exemption", he or she will not take the quiz and safe from elimination. If a contestant receives a number of "joker", this will automatically correct any incorrect answers from his or her quiz. The more jokers they use, the more incorrect answers will be automatically corrected. They can use jokers during the quiz and will expire after the next quiz. Contestants will never see the corrected answer when they use a joker.
Quiz and eliminations
editThe quiz is the primary device of eliminating contestants across all series. Traditionally between twenty questions (forty in the Final Quiz), the quiz asks the players to identify the Mole and several pieces of information regarding the Mole, including the Mole's activity in assignments, biographical profile, their fashion and/or culinary choices during the show, etc. The player scoring lowest on the quiz (and taking the longest time to do so, in the event of tied scores) is eliminated from the game.
Show Details
editIn this, the first season of The Mole, GMA Public Affairs posted on their Facebook page about a new reality game show with a question "Gusto mo ba ng kakaibang adventure? Gusto mong maging isang "double agent"? Pindutin ang link na ito." and a link redirecting to a official application form where the applicants must also submit a short video to show their interest for the adventure. Over 50,000 applications were received but only 200 applicants were interviewed personally. Among those applicants, 25 people were selected as a potential traitor. A series of tests are held privately to determine which 11 applicants will be a 'contestant', and which one will be a traitor, 'The Mole' for the entire season.
During the broadcast of 24 Oras, it was announced that the new reality game show is titled "The Mole", and revealed that Atom Araullo will be the host of the said show. Araullo also revealed that he was 'absent' on 24 Oras for the months of January to February because during his 'absence', they already taped the entire season. The airtime of the show will be between 90-100 minutes (with 55-65 minutes of the actual show). The potential prize for the season is more than 5,000,000 pesos.
