Trial Kennedy

edit

Trial Kennedy are an Australian rock band, since forming in 1997 they have released 2 studio EPs, a split EP with Australian band Horsell Common, 3 singles and 1 studio album.

The four members, Stacey Gray, Tim Morrison, Shaun Gionis and Aaron Malcomson all shared the same guitar teacher, Mark Kennedy, whom they named the band after because at times they felt like they were being 'trialed' by him, and at times, they trialed him.

Formation and First EPs

edit

Stacey Gray, Tim Morrison and Aaron Malcomson all went to the same shool, Mark Kennedy was a instrumental teacher at the shool, he encouraged Morrison to start singing, malcomson to play bass guitar and Gray was considered one of his best students. Even though he went to a different school, Shaun Gionis took lessons from Kennedy outside of school for a short time, Gionis decided to start drums after Kennedy simply told him, "Dude, find something else."
When he was in year 11, Gray approached Malcomson after seeing one of his performances and suggested that they start a band, shorlty after, they asked Morrison and Gionis to join the band. They then practiced every week on a Tuesday night at Jam Tin studios, in room 7, from which their first band name came, they called themselves "Room Seven". Room Seven recorded their first collection of songs late in 1999 and started playing gigs at local pubs.

After three years, they decided to change their name to "Trial Kennedy" as a way of "rebirth and letting go of old ways".

In 2003 Helltrack Records asked Trial Kennedy to provide a song for the Action Against Cruelty 2CD compilation. The 2CD set featured Austalian and international hardcore, metal and rock bands such as; I Killed the Prom Queen, Horsell Common, Daysend and Zombie Apocalypse. The song Trial Kennedy provided for the compilation was "Song for Sense".

In 2004, Annmarie McGrath, owner of Helltrack Records, convinced Trial Kennedy to release an EP. She later became the band's manager. Trial Kennedy's debut EP, Present for a Day, was released in September that year. "Song for Sense" can also be found on this EP.

Shortly after the release of Present for a Day, Trial Kennedy were offered a booking deal from TPA, one of Australia's largest booking agencies. Also with TPA are bands Shihad, Silverchair, The Living End and Grinspoon.[1][2][3]

in 2006(?) Trial kennedy were asked to provide asong for a second compilation CD, Action Against Cruelty 2: Whalewatch. The song Trial Kennedy provided was Damage on Parade.

Later, that same song was used on their second EP, Picture Frame.

In mid 2007, Trial Kennedy recorded a pilot song, The Great Escape. The song was released onto iTunes and put on their myspace, a video for the song was also filmed and put online.

Later in 2007, Trial Kennedy annouced that they were reccording an album, keeping their fans informed through video blogs.
On May 31st, 2008, trial Kennedy's debut album New Manic Art was released. The CD/DVD has behind the scenes footage and some interviews(?). The songs on New Manic Art have a much more mainstream sound, but don't stray from the old rock sound of previous EPs.
