Jamie Joy (JJ) Romaniuk

Jamie Romaniuk is a young musician/singer/songwriter/actress born and raised in Glengarry Ontario. Although her date of birth is unknown she is estimated to be about 14-16 years old. She went to Maxville Public School (MPS) from junior kindergarten to grade 6 to receive her elementary education and is currently receiving her Highschool education at Glengarry District High School (GDHS) in Alexandria, Ontario.

Jamie was first recognized for her raw talents at the age of 7 when she first performed a solo in her elementary school choir during the Kinsmen Music Festival at the Autsville theatre in Cornwall, Ontario. The judges were so shocked by the power in her voice at such a young age that they announced it to the whole theatre. One of the judges went on to say that Jamie would become one of the most successful artists of her generation. Every year since then, Jamie has performed multiple solo's either with her choir teacher playing piano or Jamie playing an instrument herself. Out of all her solo performances she has won nothing other than first place gold. Ever since she was in grade 7 she has only performed original songs at the Kinsmen Music Festival and always won gold for them. When she was in grade 8 she wrote a song called "Wonderland" and performed it at the Kinsmen Music Festival using nothing but her mother's (Kim Romaniuk) acoustic guitar and her voice. All of the judges voted her for 1st place and complimented the melody and meaning of the song. When Jamie was asked what the song was about she said "It's about me not wanting to find complete the happiness because i hate the feeling of the happiness going away (I never want to find wonderland, because i know i could never stay) and how i would do anything even if it meant hurting myself to always stay in that happiness but i know that's impossible because i can't stay happy forever, no one can (and you know i would break these hands, trying to find another way). The judges then stood up from there seats and started clapping causing the entire theatre to applaud. When interviewed by the Glengarry Newspaper Jamie said "that was one of the best moments of my life just seeing everyone clap for me, i'll never forget it".

At the age of 7 she first started taking piano/keyboard lessons but she quit after about 4 months because she couldn't read sheet music and she still can't (according to her highschool music teacher and herself), from then on she is self taught. She learned how to play drums when she was 9 because her father (David Romaniuk) is an ex drummer and decided to buy a drum-set and teach his obviously musically inclined daughter how to play them. She learned how to play guitar when she was 11 because her uncle and aunt are both incredible musicians that she admired so much that she asked them to teach her some things, she said in an interview with the Cornwall Newspaper that the first song she learned to play on guitar was "Knocking On Heavens Door" by Bob Dylan. She learned to how to play banjo when she was 12, electric bass when she was 12, electric guitar when she was 12, Ukulele when she was 10, harmonica when she was 14, and saxophone when she was 14. Jamie can now play 9 instruments and is mostly self taught on all of them according to her highschool music teacher, friends, and classmates.

Jamie was one of the nominees for the Glengarry Youth of the year award in 2019 but lost to Rachel Campbell.

She has been on her highschool improv team every year since grade 7. When she was in grade 9, her team won 3rd place bronze out of 19 other teams for the Eastern Ontario Skillz Competition improv section. She has been casted in 2 of her highschools musicals. When she was in grade 7 she played the roll of molly in her highschools production of Annie the musical and in grade 8 she played the roll of Ali in her highschools production of Mamma Mia! the musical.
