Ayanda Sphelele Ndlovu is a South African social-historian, historian-philosopher currently living in Durban. He is currently a graduate student in University of the Free State (UFS). His work revolves around liberation history, feminist liberatory practices in Africa, philosophical and political historiography of liberation struggle in South Africa and race and racism in postcolonial South Africa.
Biography
He was born in Umbumbulu, in Kwa-Zulu Natal, South Africa. He attended Kwa-Gwegewe Combined Primary School in the rural Umbumbulu. Before jetting off to Okumhlophe High School in Umlazi. Soon after he matriculated, he enrolled in University of Kwa-Zulu Natal (UKZN) where he earned his two degrees before jetting off to UFS. His research interest is in African political thoughts, History (South African Liberation Historiography, Black Consciousness (BC), Pan-Africanism and African Nationalism, African Women Liberation Historiography). Amongst his current research interest is Africana Existential Phenomenology and its Intersection with BC and African Nationalism which foregrounds existential and liberatory influences in both Steve Bantubonke Biko and Robert Mangaliso Sobukwe. Furthermore, his research interest accounts to the overlooked politico-philosophical liberation historiography of 20th century South Africa, namely;(Azanian Liberation and Congress Liberation Traditions). While still in UKZN, Ayanda worked in the Centre for Critical Research on Race and Identity (CCRRI) under two projects, namely, Critical Times, Critical Race and Biko Education Project. He has worked in numerous research organization which includes Project Empower. Currently he is working on his PhD which explores political violence in South Africa.
