JOSEPH DOSSERIE Joseph Dosserie pronounced (Doss –e- re), was the first person outside of the central government service in Saint Lucia to be elected to as president of the St Lucia Civil Service association, a position which he held from September 2005 to September 2009. In December 2005 he also became the first president of the Saint Lucia Trade Union Federation and held the office until 2008. Considered a radical, Dosserie became a voice championing the issues affecting workers from member unions as well as non unionized members of the Saint Lucian workforce. His actions in the 2007 condemnation and protest demonstration against the dismissal of nearly two hundred employees of the Sandals Regency in St. Lucia and calling on the then Prime Minister Dr. Kenny Anthony was considered one of the turning points which led to the defeat of the Labor Party Government at the elections which followed. His campaing for workers rights included calls for the enactment of the labor code, and upward review of the minimum wage, union representation for other classes of workers, especially those on the commercial sector, a more vibrant and worker friendly ministry of labour and governments support in providing more assistance for affordable housing for workers with wages in the lowest income bracket. He partnered the employers federation in calling for the establishment and full functionality of tripartite and productivity councils on island.
