Abel Beyene (born October 28, 1967) is an African-American businessman and consultant. He is the President of Beyco Holdings, Inc., a management consulting firm.

Early life

Beyene was born in Frankfurt, Germany, on October 28, 1967. He is the son of Beyene Berhe and Abeba Isahac - both of Ethiopian ancestry. His father was a senior executive in Ethiopian Airlines and his mother worked at various agencies in the United Nations. Shortly after he was born, Abel's father was transferred to Rome, Italy where the family lived for a year before returning to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Abel was in enrolled in Saint Joseph School, a private school in Addis Ababa, where he studied until the family moved to Delhi, India in 1976. In Delhi, Abel lived in the Vasant Vihar neighborhood and attended the Pinnacle Academy (then known as Junior & Tiny Tots). A year later Abel's father was reassigned to Mumbai. After living in the Taj Mahal Hotel for six months, the family moved to the Royal Bombay Yacht Club in Apollo Bunder. While in Mumbai, Abel studied at The Cathedral & John Connon School. While living in India, Abel accompanied his father on a business trip, during which he visited, Tokyo, Singapore and Hong Kong. In 1980, the family moved to London, and Abel was enrolled into Bushey Meads Academy in Bushey. A year later, Abel was enrolled in Rockwell College in Cashel, Tipperary.

After finishing he secondary school education, Abel moved the United States and attended Campbellsville College in Campbellsville. KY for two years before moving to New York City in 1987. He earned his B.A. in Economics from Baruch College and his M.A. from Seton Hall University.

Career

Beyene began his career in finance at Charles Schwab in New York City. At Schwab, he earned his Series 7 license and was promoted from Account Executive to Assistant Branch Manager. In 1993, Beyene moved to NDB (acquired by Deutsche Bank) where he was part of project team that developed an online retail brokerage platform. NDB became one of the first brokerage firms to offer this service. Following a short assignment in Beverly Hills, CA, where he earned his Series 24 and 4 licenses, Beyene returned to New York to continue his career in the institutional brokerage sector. He joined BT Alex.Brown (later acquired by Deutsche Bank in 1998 as a research assistant. In 1999, he moved with his research team to start-up merchant bank Thomas Weisel Partners (now Stifel) where he was promoted to Research Associate covering the electronics supply chain industry. By 2003, Beyene had moved to Wells Fargo Securities as a Senior Equity Analyst, publishing reports on five companies. In 2006, he joined Savage Capital, a long-short hedge fund focused on the technology sector.

Following the Financial Crisis, Beyene joined GE Capital's Country Risk team as a Senior Analyst, where he advised various business units regarding social, political and financial issues affecting nations in sub-Saharan Africa. in 2017, he established Beyco Holdings and and began a consulting relationship with a start-up event management company, helping them with infrastructure and operational processes.
