Protection - (for Paint)

edit

In construction and other trade professions, paint is used to provide protection to various surfaces. This includes protection from solar radiation (exposure to energy emitted by the sun), UV rays, mold, rain, and other external factors. The paint chosen is determined by the the physical properties that best suit the surface being painted, and the conditions that the surface is most likely to be in or exposed to.[1][2]

Enamel paint is commonly used on walls (both interior and exterior), wood trim, doors, stairs, etc. This kind of paint takes longer to dry, but it's chosen for it's protection against water and chemicals, along with the ease in which it's able to be cleaned.

Cement paint is used for protection from weather, chemical damage, and rust. It contains cement as its base material, and is usually available in a powder form, with water to be added to achieve a required consistency. This kind of paint is usually used for concrete walls or floors, both internal and external.[3]

Emulsion paint is used indoors, for ceilings and walls, along with types of masonry work. It's used to achieve and maintain a certain color while also providing durability. This kind of paint is water-based, washable, and easy to maintain, and it considered to be more suitable and efficient for homes than paints that are oil-based.[4]

Bituminous paint is durable and alkaline resistant, providing waterproofing along with resistance to corrosion. This paint is used to protect things like wood, concrete, and metal surfaces. As it's made or obtained from tar, it leaves such surfaces with a black color.[5]
