Yalombweleni Patrick Israel Iyambo(Lunganda)was born in 1939 at Uukwalumbe village near Okahao in Northern Namibia by tate Iyambo yaShitumwa, gwaMumbadja and meme Munyoka yaShapaka both subsistence farmers ,only a year and a half after his birth his mother passed on in 1941,surely in accordance with our tradition and custom the only elder sister, meme Lahja Ndawedha, had to assume motherly responsibilities to bring up her brother.[1]

He was a liberation struggler and was among the first group of SWAPO's seven combatants that went to Egypt in July 1962 for military training,in Egypt they were given regular army training with small and heavy weapons as well as marine training, parachuting, hand-to-hand combat and military topography,he was also part of the first attack at Omugulugwombashe on 26 August 1966 with Other Commander like Tobias Hainjeko, John Otto Nankudhu and others,former president Dr. Sam Nujoma describes him as one of those guerilla combatants par excellence that the People's Liberation Army of Namibia had ever produced.He was a great shooter,fast as lightning and fearless as a commander.After indipendence comrade Lunganda joined the Namibian police and assumed a lank of Inspector which he retained until his death on July 25 1991,Dr.Sam Nujoma concludes that he was honoured to inaugurate the Police College after him on May 29, 1998.[2]
