She may become the first person of Serbian origin to go into space on Virgin Galactic.
Career
editNatasha Pavlovich has been a character actress in Hollywood for over twenty years, working in dramas, sitcoms and features. Her roles have been in some of televisions's top rated shows, including Judging Amy,[1] Nip/Tuck,[2] Mike Hammer Private Eye, Cybill,[1] JAG (TV series), Quantum Leap and VIP. She also had a recurring role in the series Pride and Joy.[1] Other actors she's worked with include John Stamos, Tyne Daly, Stacy Keach, Gary Busey, George Hamilton,[2] Cybil Shepard and Pamela Anderson.[3] Pavlovich also got to work with director Blake Edwards and actress Julie Andrews on the feature Son of the Pink Panther . As for her other film-work, Pavlovich appeared in the movies The Naked Truth, Space Warriors and Ironclad: Battle for Blood.[1]
In addition to speaking a standard American Dialect, Pavlovich knows several languages, allowing her to portray Russian, Romanian and Czech characters, among others. She has played Lee Harvey's Russian wife, an Iraqi Army Officer, a South American Beauty Queen, a Romany gypsy and a fashion designer from France.
Pavlovich was also a regular in the popular Serbian drama series Gorki plodovi (aka Bitter Fruit ) where she played an ophthalmologist.[4] She was asked by the show's creator Siniša Kovačević to play the role by speaking Serbian with an American accent.[5]
Recreational Flying
editPavlovich belongs to an international organization of women pilots called the Ninety-Nines . After her boyfriend, Joe Lara, got her interested in aviation, she learned to pilot single engine planes and jet aircraft.[2] She's flown a MiG-25 reaching the edge of space to a height of about 85,000 feet, making her the first person of Serbian origin to reach that height.[2] She was also the first woman to co-pilot a MiG-25.[5] She consequently became a celebrity in Serbia and hopes to beat that record by becoming the first of her countrymen to visit outer space.[2][6][7]
Obtaining sponsorship through the organization Space Adventures,[2] Pavlovich was able to procure a ticket on board Virgin Galactic's upcoming commercial space flights, now scheduled to begin in 2018.[8] Pavlovich has the opportunity to become one of the world's first space tourists and the first person from the former Yugoslavia to travel to outer space.[9][10]
Background
editPavlovich was born in the village of Popovi near Bijeljina in the former Yugoslavia.[7] She immigrated to Chicago as a child and later moved to Los Angeles where she studied acting at Sal Dano Actor's Workshop. She also graduated from the University of Southern California (UCLA) with a bachelor's degree in English.[4][2]
Pavlovich has used her polyglot skills as a translator for the basketball player Vlade Divac. A former beauty queen, she's competed in the Miss Universe 1991 pageant, representing Yugoslavia in the semi-finals, and was also Miss Beverly Hills 1989.
