Broken Hearts is a webtoon created by Webtoon user named likio. It takes inspiration from Indian series Dil Sambhal Jaa Zara, as well as Turkish series Aşk-ı Memnu. Contrary to both stories, the webtoon takes place in modern-day Gyeonggi, South Korea.

Role	Character
Geum-Byeol	The lead protagonist. Geum-Byeol is a young woman who blames her mother, Sae-Byeok for the death of her father, Il-Jeom. Sae-Byeok was planning to marry Jong-Joo, but instead of her mother, proposed to Geum-Byeol agrees. Jong-Joo is more of a father figure, replacing Il-Jeom. She begins an affair with Xiaojing, Adnan's adoptive nephew who lives in the house and falls in love with her.
Jong-Joo	A rich Gyeonggi businessman, who falls in love with and marries the much younger Geum-Byeol. He has two children, Haeng-Bok and Kkeut. He has raised the orphaned Xiaojing as his own son.
Xiaojing	The orphaned son of Adnan. His parents died in a car crash in Taipei and stayed at an orphanage. He has been raised by Jong-Joo, whom he calls "Hyung". A deeply feeling young man but he is not brave enough to defend their forbidden love. He ends up losing Geum-Byeol and his family at the end and says he will live unhappy forever.
Sae-Byeok	Geum-Byeol's and Hyunmi's mother, a greedy woman obsessed with money and power. Her husband died of a heart attack when he discovered that she was having an affair.
Ms. Ai	Kkeut's and HaengBok's tutor, she is well educated and cares for both the children who have been entrusted to her by their dying mother. She is secretly in love with Jong-Joo.
Haeng-Bok	Jong-Joo's son and Kkeut's brother, he is eleven years old when the series begins. A fun-loving kid who loves Xiaojing and looks up to him.
Kkeut	Kkeut is Jong-Joo's innocent and naive daughter. Xiaojing and Kkeut have been raised as siblings, but she develops romantic feelings for and falls in love with him.
