The Weird Weeds were an experimental rock band from Austin, Texas, active from 2003 to 2012. Over the band's lifetime, members included Sarah Hennies (drums, vocals), Aaron Russell (guitar, vocals), Sandy Ewen (guitar, vocals), Lindsey Verrill (bass, vocals), and Kurt Newman (guitar). Steve Gigante wrote lyrics for several early Weird Weeds songs and sang at the band's first performance.

History

Aaron Russell and Sarah Hennies began writing songs together in Austin, Texas in 2003, with lyrical contributions from Steve Gigante (then living in Knoxville, Tennessee). The band's first performance, in Louisville, Kentucky was as a three-piece, with Gigante on lead vocals.

Hennies soon took over lead vocal duties, and Sandy Ewen and Kurt Newman joined as additional guitar players. This four-piece lineup recorded the band's first album, "Hold Me."

Newman left the band after "Hold Me," and the group continued as a three-piece for the band's next two album releases, "Weird Feelings" and "I Miss This," an EP, "This Is Not What You Want," and a split single with Canadian band Shapes and Sizes, "Unusual Animals, Vol. 1."

Lindsey Verrill joined The Weird Weeds on upright bass and vocals for the band's last two albums, "Help Me Name Melody" and "The Weird Weeds."
