- Australia equalled their best World Cup finish from two years ago, claiming 5th place after defeating South Korea in their final game. Netherlands defeated Cuba in the final to be crowned World Champions for the first time, leaving Cuba in 2nd for the third straight tournament. Canada and United States shared 3rd place after their final was washed out.
- One of the Perth Heat's opponents for the restarted Asia Series in November has been decided: Uni-President 7-Eleven Lions are the 2011 CPBL champions, having defeated the Lamigo Monkeys 4 games to 1. It will be the third time they have qualified for the Asia Series, the most times a team has qualified. (The China Stars have appeared 3 times as well, but were an All-Star team that that played in place of the CBL champions for the first 3 years.)
