editIntroduction
editAamer Saeed Bhatti.[1] (Urdu: عامر سعید بھٹی; b. 10th September 1964, Jhelum, Punjab), recipient of the Tamgha-e-Imtiaz[2], Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry (FRSC), with an h-index of 47 and 11,335 citations, is a Pakistani organic chemist currently serving as the Dean and Tenured Professor of Chemistry at the Department of Chemistry[3], Quaid-I-Azam University[4], Islamabad, Pakistan. He has served as Chairman (2021–2024) Department of Chemistry[5], Quaid-I-Azam University, Islamabad, Pakistan. He contributed to the development of the Chemical Sciences at the Department of Chemistry, Quaid-I-Azam University, and transformed the landscape of higher education. He has published more then 620 research publications in renowned journals, 7 international patents, 11 book chapters, and two books. He has supervised more than 72 masters and 28 Ph.D. students. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry FRSC (UK), a Fellow of the Chemical Society of Pakistan[6], a Fellow Pakistan Academy of Sciences[7], and a Professor at Quaid-I-Azam University, Islamabad. He was ranked among the world's top 2% scientists by Stanford University in 2020[8], and again in 2022 by Stanford University & Elsevier[9]
Education
editDr. Bhatti is a distinguished scholar in Organic Chemistry, recognized for his academic excellence and significant research contributions. He earned his M.Sc. in Organic Chemistry from Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad, in 1986, where he conducted research on the chemical properties of the plant *Ipomoea carnea* under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Naeema Khan. Continuing his studies at the same institution, he completed his M.Phil. in 1988, with a thesis focused on developing a synthetic approach to the Isochroman system, contributing to the study of fungal metabolites.
In 1994, Dr. Bhatti received his Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from Quaid-i-Azam University, where his doctoral research, supervised by Prof. Dr. Nasim H. Rama, involved the synthesis of natural compounds such as Isocoumarins. His research, conducted between 1987 and 1994, was part of NSRD B+ and PSF projects.
From 1994 to 1995, Dr. Bhatti conducted further research at his alma mater, focusing on the total synthesis of Feralolide. He was also awarded Alexander von Humboldt Post-Doctoral Fellowships in 2001 and 2020, which enabled him to carry out postdoctoral research at the Institute für Organische Chemie at Universität Hannover, Germany, under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Markus Kalesse.
Research Work
editProf. Dr. Aamer Saeed Bhatti's research covers diverse areas of synthetic bioorganic and medicinal chemistry, with a focus on natural products and heterocyclic chemistry. His work includes the stereoselective and total synthesis of bioactive natural products, such as antitumor polyketides like Callystatin and Ratjadone, as well as studies on isocoumarins, dihydroisocoumarins, and their nitrogen and sulfur analogues. Dr. Bhatti has also contributed to the synthesis, biological evaluation, heterocyclization, QSAR studies, and computational investigations of acyl thioureas.
In addition, his research explores the design, synthesis, and bioevaluation of novel nitrogen-sulfur heterocycles and bisheterocycles using hybrid pharmacophore approaches. His work extends into organic electronic materials, including carbazole, fluorene, and perylene-based compounds for OLEDs, as well as fluorescent dyes like Rylene, Rylene azo-hybrids, porphyrins, xanthenes, anthocyanins, and triarylmethane derivatives.
Dr. Bhatti has advanced green chemistry through methodologies such as one-pot multi-component reactions, microwave-assisted synthesis, aqueous synthesis, and mechanochemical synthesis. His discoveries include several small and hybrid molecules with potent enzyme inhibitory properties, as well as novel drugs targeting multidrug-resistant Gram-negative pathogens, with a focus on structure-transport relationships. Additionally, his work in bioimaging has contributed to the development of in vivo cancer probes, ion sensors, materials with aggregate-induced emission properties, and components for dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs).
This revision improves clarity and readability while maintaining all key details.
