Coat of arms of municipalities in the Märkischer Kreis
editThe following texts are to be included into articles about the municipalities or Ämter once they are written.
Dahle
editWhen the municipality Dahle planned to have a coat of arms in the early 1930s, no historical heraldic symbol was found which could be used in the coat of arms. Thus the heraldic Otto Hupp had to choose a modern symbol. The top of the shield shows the war memorial, which was build shortly before. The bottom half show the red-and-white chequered bar of the counts of the Mark. The coat of arms was granted on October 17 1935.
Lüdenscheid-Land
editThe coat of arms of the municipality Lüdenscheid-Land shows three silver chain links on black ground, the symbol of the noble family von Neuhoff, who had their origin in the municipality. Below is the red-and-white chequered bar as the symbol of the Mark. In the bottom part are three wavy lines, representing the three major rivers of the municipality - Rahmede, Volme and Verse. The coat of arms was granted on October 3 1935, and was designed by Otto Hupp.
The first drafts made by Otto Hupp in 1930 were not accepted by mayor of the municipality, one of them was later reused and became the coat of arms of Schalksmühle.
Amt Lüdenscheid
editThe coat of arms of the Amt Lüdenscheid combined symbols of the two member municipalities Lüdenscheid-Land and Hülscheid. In the top are three chain rings, the symbol of the noble family von Neuenhoff, who had their origin in the area of the municipality Lüdenscheid-Land. To the bottom are three leaves of the English holly, as a talking symbol for the municipality Hülscheid. Both symbols are separated by the red-and-white chequered bar symbolizing the dukedom Mark.
Affeln
editThe coat of arms of Affeln dates back to medieval times, when in 1492 archbishop Hermann of Cologne elevated the village to be a Freiheit. The oldest seal dates from the year 1538, and showed the cross of Cologne with the holy bishop Lambert of Maastricht as patron saint of the church of Affeln. At first the saint only held a crook, later it was depicted holding both a crook and a bible. In the beginning of the 20th century the municipality requested the official right to have a coat of arms, which was granted by Wilhelm II. in 1909. However later there was some confusion, as before 1935 municipalities weren't allowed to have coat of arms, also in a book by August Roth of 1924 the coat of arms was described as a plain silver cross on a red shield, without the patron saint. In 1967 finally this simplified coat of arms was granted as the official coat of arms, however it expired few years later when Affeln was incorporated into Balve.
Garbeck
editThe coat of arms of Garbeck shows two black horizontal bars on a silver shield. In the top bar are two silver crowns, in the bottom bar one silver crown with five peaks. The bars on silver ground are taken from the coat of arms of the family von Mengede, an old noble family from Garbeck. The crowns refers to the church which has the Three Holy Kings as their patrons.
Hennen
editThe coat of arms of the municipality Hennen shows three silver towers with three pinnacles each, placed on a red shield. The three towers represent the three manors (Herrensitz) Hennen, Ohle and Gerkendahl. The coat of arms was granted on September 30 1966.
