"Pulang" (transl. Come Back) is a Malay-language song by Malaysian band Insomniacks. The song is written by Iqie, Iskandar, Danial, Gavin and Damilia Othman and produced by Taja. The song was released on 23 November 2018 by Sony Music Entertainment Malaysia. And has since been the longest-charting Malay single on the RIM Domestic/Malay Streaming Chart.[1]
The music video, directed by Thaqif Saadon, was released on 30 November 2018. The video opens on the Insomniacks performing onstage at a school dance, with the rest of the music video depicting the evolving relationship between Iqie and the female protagonist (Siti Hajjar) whilst attending school and then the consequences of the female lead's amnesia. The music video ends back at the school dance with the female lead gaining her memory and walking up to the stage towards Insomniacks.
The accompanying webseries, Pulang WEDisode, comprising of four episodes were uploaded to the band's YouTube channel from 12–26 December 2018.
The song peaked at number one on Malaysia's RIM domestic (Malay) streaming charts, in 2018 and 2019.[2][3] According to the Recording Industry Association of Malaysia, "Pulang" was the most streamed Malaysian song in Malaysia as well as the song that spent the most weeks in the domestic streaming chart, in 2019.[4][1] The single also contributed to Insomniacks being the fifth most-streamed local artist on Spotify Malaysia, in 2019.[5]
As of July 2022, the song has been on the chart for 189 weeks. The song has amassed 14 million streams on Spotify, as of August 2022.
A piano version of the song was released as part of the soundtrack for the Malay drama Qada & Qadar for Snek, on 6 June 2019. The song was produced by Insomniacks, Taja, and Alex.
Insomniacks re-recorded "Pulang", subtitled "Reimagined", after signing with Universal Music Malaysia in early 2021. An animated lyric video was released alongside the single on 17 September 2019.
