How to Qualify
editOnce registered to do the competition, the team that is registered is scheduled a qualification round at their own store. The team's success will be determined by their own designated corporate representative. The teams with the lowest recorded time will be the ones to move on to the championship round. In case of a tie, the team with the smallest amount of penalty time will be the team to move on.
The Rules
editEach team can have no more than three people. The team can only consist of delivery drivers, in-shoppers, and managers. No owners are allowed to compete. One person is in charge of cutting, gutting, and preparing the bread, one person is responsible for getting the meat ready for the sub, and one person to wrap the sub at the end of the table. The first two people work together in a variety of ways based on their personal preferences. Experience is key as the employees themselves, through training and memorization, learn how to speed up their performance through trial-and-error of different techniques. Each team is given a list of 10 subs to make from start to finish as usually done in a Jimmy John's restaurant environment.[1]
Scoring
editAfter all 10 subs are completed, they are then disassembled and graded on accuracy. If there are 1-3 errors, they add 5 seconds for each error to the total time it took for the team to make the ten subs. If there are 4-6 errors add 10 seconds per error, 7-9 errors add 15 seconds each, and 10+ errors add 20 seconds each which is about the time that it takes a very experienced sub maker to finish making a sub. This shows how difficult the competition can be and how important perfection is.[2]
Prizes
edit- 1st prize $24,000
- 2nd prize $15,000
- 3rd prize $9,000[3]
