Orphaned non-free image File:PNAC coa.png

Thanks for uploading File:PNAC coa.png. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of "file" pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Wikipedia Ambassador Program is looking for new Online Ambassadors

Hi! Since you've been identified as an Awesome Wikipedian, I wanted to let you know about the Wikipedia Ambassador Program, and specifically the role of Online Ambassador. We're looking for friendly Wikipedians who are good at reviewing articles and giving feedback to serve as mentors for students who are assigned to write for Wikipedia in their classes.

If that sounds like you and you're interested, I encourage you to take a look at the Online Ambassador guidelines; the "mentorship process" describes roughly what will be expected of mentors during the current term, which started in January and goes through early May. If that's something you want to do, please apply!

You can find instructions for applying at WP:ONLINE. The main things we're looking for in Online Ambassadors are friendliness, regular activity (since mentorship is a commitment that spans several months), and the ability to give detailed, substantive feedback on articles (both short new articles, and longer, more mature ones).

I hope to hear from you soon.--Sage Ross - Online Facilitator, Wikimedia Foundation (talk) 17:36, 10 February 2011 (UTC)

Carnegie Library

Dear Alekjds! Is it possible to provide me with an article from the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh? So I want to ask you for this article:

  • Sprackland, R. G. 1999. New species of monitor (Squamata: Varanidae) from Indonesia. in: Reptile Hobbyist, 4(6): 20-27.

For any help I will very thank you. It will help for the refinement of Wikipedia articles. Please reply here on this site. Thank you very much indeed, Doc Taxon (talk) 05:21, 20 May 2011 (UTC)

In regards your request for the article from the Carnegie Library, I'll see what I can do. It may be a week or two.
Dear Friend, please let's talk on one site only, this site here. Thank you for your help, Doc Taxon (talk) 06:03, 20 May 2011 (UTC)

Sqn Pellegrino

Hi I have been working for quite some time on this page for a few weeks.See User:Afernand74/sandbox_4 It was meant to be my DYK after Saint Martin and Sebastian of the Swiss. ;-) Not a big deal. I will incorporate the material in the coming weeks. The most fascinating aspect of the story of this church is the Naumachia it refers to. See response on original poster's talk page. Summary: Should have seen that; I apologize. — AlekJDS talk 00:13, 22 May 2011 (UTC)
No problem. I hope to expand it at least 5x to make it DYKable again. It is a fascinating little church when you start digging around. English not being my mother tongue, the article will not need some pro bono copyediting anytime soon ;-)Alberto Fernandez Fernandez (talk) 10:01, 27 May 2011 (UTC)

Wikipedia:WikiProject Pittsburgh is rolling out some new features (see our discussions at WT:PITTSBURGH). We are also trying to determine how many members are active, and interested in contributing to Pittsburgh content or coming to our real life meetups to discuss Wikipedia in general. If you could go to Wikipedia:WikiProject Pittsburgh/Members and move your name from inactive to the active or semi-active group (depending on your interest in Pittsburgh issue and overall activity) groups, this would be great. Hopefully in a near future you'll also receive our first newsletter with various information on what we have been doing, and what useful tools are available. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk 20:03, 26 June 2011 (UTC)

Coat of Arms of the Diocese of Erie

Would you mind if I uploaded a new coat of arms over File:Roman Catholic Diocese of Erie.svg? I had drawn up a more elaborate looking one that more closly resembles the one used by the diocese. Niagara Don't give up the ship 23:32, 27 June 2011 (UTC)

May I suggest just uploading yours at Wikimedia Commons with a different file name? — AlekJDS talk 23:42, 27 June 2011 (UTC)
I suppose I could do that, I would end up replacing the instances where your image is used though. I also wouldn't upload it to Commons because copyright concerns (I do not believe the coat of arms in is the public domain). Niagara Don't give up the ship 00:32, 28 June 2011 (UTC)
I have no problem if you want to replace the instances of the image on English Wikipedia. But mine is hosted on Commons, so you wouldn't want to overwrite it then. — AlekJDS talk 00:38, 28 June 2011 (UTC)
Okay, I've uploaded the new version at File:Coat of arms of the Diocese of Erie.svg. I am going to check whether it is public domain and maybe move it to Commons. By the way, I note your created arms for a bunch of others dioceses, which is great. How exactly are you able to do that? I would have given up long ago. Niagara Don't give up the ship 01:04, 28 June 2011 (UTC)
Wow, yours looks great! If it ends up being public domain, let me know. I'd love to use the mitre part on my own images, if you wouldn't mind me doing so. (It seems to me that it would be PD. After all it seems as if you've redrawn it from scratch and it's a pretty general blazon; a coat of arms isn't—or shouldn't be—like a corporate logo.) I started working on the other diocesan coat of arms as a way of getting familiar with Inkscape. I attribute my progress so far partly to not having a summer job and partly to an obsessive-compulsive determination to finish what I started. (More the former than the latter.) — AlekJDS talk 01:37, 28 June 2011 (UTC)
From what I've gathered, I probably could move it commons, but, for simplicity sake, I wonder if I might modify yours by just replacing the mitre (you're welcome to use it by the way) and tweak the colors of the shield. Niagara Don't give up the ship 18:14, 29 June 2011 (UTC)
I have no problem with that compromise. Incidentally, I'm planning on tweaking a lot of those diocesan coat of arms images soon, adding the more ornate and symmetrical mitre (thank you, by the way), and standardizing the colors. You're more than welcome to have at the Erie diocese image. — AlekJDS talk 18:22, 29 June 2011 (UTC)
Done, I've speedied the other. If you need any help let me know (I could even do a few of the coat of arms). Niagara Don't give up the ship 19:23, 29 June 2011 (UTC)
I've finished re-coloring all the images with the standard pallet from the Spanish heraldry project (here). Also, I've added your mitre to all images as well. (I recolored it a bit to match what seemed to me to be the prevalent color scheme among U.S. dioceses.) — AlekJDS talk 00:16, 30 June 2011 (UTC)
That is fine, I have never seen the Erie coat of arms without a white mitre and it appears to be one the few that has it. While you were replacing the mitres, I decided up draw up the personal coat of arms for Mark Leonard Bartchak (found a description but no blazon). Niagara Don't give up the ship 02:23, 30 June 2011 (UTC)

Teaching with Wikipedia Workshop at CMU (Aug 15)

Since you are one of the editors in the Category:Wikipedians by alma mater: Duquesne University, I'd like to invite you to the Teaching with Wikipedia Workshop that will take place at CMU on Aug 15 (this workshop is open to general public, and is a joint imitative of CMU and Pitt). There will be another workshop held at Pitt in the Fall as well. It will cover how to include Wikipedia in one's course (WP:SUP) and also how to become a Wikipedia:Campus Ambassadors. Pennsylvania has currently only one ambassador (myself) and it would be great if we could recruit at least several more. Ambassadors help course instructors, showing them how Wikipedia works, and interact with students. Many current ambassadors come from the body of students, faculty and university staff; it is a fun adventure, and adds to one resume/CV, to boot :) If it sounds interesting, feel free to ask me any questions, or to come to the workshop.--Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk 20:03, 9 August 2011 (UTC)

Hi. When you recently edited Estácio de Sá, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Santarém (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.
