editCan I just delete the entire challange section until I can redevelope the information in a way that won't creat a copyright issue? Damon.cluck (talk) 17:15, 15 January 2010 (UTC)
- Yes, I think that's okay and I have undid Bradjamesbrown's undo (he himself replied to you that he made a mistake, but he's right that you should use edit summary). You said on my talk page that you want to “redevelope the information from a different source”. The problem isn't what source you used, but how you used it. You can't just copy text from some webpage if its author doesn't agree with that. But you can use that page as a source of information, if you write them in your own words and you believe it's a reliable source. You should the cite that webpage. Svick (talk) 17:29, 15 January 2010 (UTC)
Got it, thanks, If you look back I included as a See Also in the reference, The Flyer that the 39th Support Battalion Web site quoted. This was a document we put together for our 30th Anniversery and the 39th Support Battalion Site is actually quoting it. I think I have a more recient update of the same information that we did for the Brigades 39th Anniversery. Thanks for your help. New to all of this but enjoying learning. Trying to get a lot of information from 20 years of service in the Brigade capture before altimers sets in.Damon.cluck (talk) 17:39, 15 January 2010 (UTC)

editYou capitalized the d in deployment. Generally words in section titles are not capitalized unless they are a proper noun, or they are the first word in title. I have changed it back to small d. Happy editting. Feel free to talk back. Hamza [ talk ] 22:34, 27 January 2010 (UTC)
206th Field Artillery Regiment
editI must say that your contribs regarding US Army operations are very detailed. I was just going through your articles and following are some suggestions you may want to consider in your future edits
- Kindly use small letters in section & sub-section titles with exception of names etc.
- Put references in the section body rather than in section title. If your references corroborates multiple consecutive sentences, then you may add your reference at the end of last sentence it corroborates. If any other sentence in any other section can also be verified through this particular reference than you may want to use <ref name="refname"/> tag.
Drop back a message on my talk page if you have any questions. Hamza [ talk ] 05:32, 29 January 2010 (UTC)
Thanks, I have served 21 years in the 206th and the 39th BCT, including 2 tours in Iraq. One of my closest friends just retired with 43 years of service in the Regiment and his dad was with the same unit at the battle of Dutch Harbor, so it's kind of a labor of love.
I know I need to go back through and clean up the cites.

The article Bibliography of Arkansas National Guard History has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- Wikipedia is not a directory to various sources.
While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Fiftytwo thirty (talk) 21:26, 14 May 2010 (UTC)
I have nominated Bibliography of Arkansas National Guard History, an article that you created, for deletion. I do not think that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Bibliography of Arkansas National Guard History. Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time.
Please contact me if you're unsure why you received this message. Fiftytwo thirty (talk) 21:54, 14 May 2010 (UTC)
- Per your request at the AFD, and per the clear consensus there, I've moved this article to User:Damon.cluck/Bibliography of Arkansas National Guard History. It can remain there as a resource, both for you and for the other editors working on the project. May I also suggest, though, that it might be useful information to pass along to either The Military History Wikiproject (of which you're a member, I see) or Wikipedia:WikiProject Arkansas, if only as a link. Please let me know if I can be of further assistance. Best, UltraExactZZ Said ~ Did 14:37, 19 May 2010 (UTC)

Arkansas Militia
editNo problem, if you need anymore help please let me know! I did all the research for the Brooks-Baxter War article and several other Arkansas related topics, so I'm pretty well versed. I was planning on going over that article one more time because there are still a couple of conflicts I remember seeing with the research I had done. I would suggest looking at http://books.google.com I found several books on Arkansas history there recently made available. --The_stuart (talk) 15:40, 9 November 2010 (UTC)
- Any additions or corrections would be greatly appreciated. I am really trying to focus on the roll of the militia during the reconstruction conflicts. Unfortunately, due to the Legislature abolishing the office of Adjutant General at the end of reconstruction, we (the state military department) have very few militia records from the period.Aleutian06 03:57, 10 November 2010 (UTC)

Re: Thanks for the help
editSorry I've been away from wikipedia for a while I guess you could say. Most of the sources for the article are freely available online. The Driggs thesis can be ordered though proquest
Here I'd really suggest google books, there are several old books that are just encyclopedias of people, and I remember quite a few of them being soldiers.
I usually concentrate on politics, I would greatly appreciate you flushing out the militia history. I know the article is about a supposed "war" and yet there isn't much discussion about troops and battles and things. I know one thing that bothers me is that the Baxter men referred to themselves as "the Hallie Riflers" and the boat that was sunk in the Battle of Palarm was also named Hallie, and I haven't been able to determine if this is just a coincidence, and if not where that name came from. That's just one of many things I still haven't figured out.
As for getting it featured, that's just a tactic that I use to provoke critiques when I get stuck on an article and I need feedback to improve it. I doubt this article, being about southern post civil war politics, will ever be passable because it will never be unbiased enough. But I too find the reconstruction period to be incredibly interesting, I like studying politics in chaos. So it gives me an endless amount of things to do to research the BB War deeper and deeper.

19-century military ranks
editNo, I can't find any good reference for what abbreviations were used in the 19th century. I am sure that the US Army's standard abbreviations were changed around the middle of the 20th century to all upper-case letters without a period, such as Capt. -> CAPT, Maj. -> MAJ, and so on. Perhaps you could find 19th-century military books on Google Books or elsewhere that could give you a some good examples. Sorry I can't provide more help. Happy editing! Speedy deletion nomination of 15th (Josey's) Arkansas Infantry Regiment
editIf this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on 15th (Josey's) Arkansas Infantry Regiment requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hang on}}
to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion, or "db", tag; if no such tag exists, then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hang-on tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. - I worked it over more thoroughly. You might want to check "Eurka Springs" and see if that shouldn't be "Eureka". The sentence "The units were poorly equipped and outdated equipment" was not very clear, and you probably know better than I what exactly was meant. I converted m-d-y style dates to d-m-y style, starting from World War I to the end, as there was a mix of styles, and WP:DATE says that modern US military usage is d-m-y. They don't say what year we went to 'modern'. If you want any earlier dates converted, I have the tools. I feel that m-d-y is better for the Civil War era. Happy editing! edithi Damon, sorry about the confusion, i meant to let you know once it had been approved. as you've seen the defintion you probably realise by now its more for the benefit of the people who patrol new pages (of which i'm one). it does not mean the articles you create wont be checked or commented on by anyone, they will, it just means that because the qualtiy of your articles has been so good the new page patrollers dont need to worry about them. anyway, keep up the good work! cheers -- The Elves Of Dunsimore (talk) 01:34, 27 July 2011 (UTC)

List of Arkansas Civil War Confederate units
editCould you give me the link with the 48 units that you say are unassessed. Because the one's I've come across have been assessed. Adamdaley (talk) 07:53, 7 August 2011 (UTC)
- I've looked at this article 3rd Regiment, Arkansas State Troops and left my feedback. Adamdaley (talk) 08:28, 7 August 2011 (UTC)
- I've looked at this article 2nd Arkansas Light Artillery and left my feedback. Adamdaley (talk) 09:14, 7 August 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks. I guess I screwed this up in that when I dropped the templates on the talk pages, I actually copied an assessment. I need to go back and take a look at that. Sorry for the confusion.Aleutian06 (talk) 15:38, 7 August 2011 (UTC)
- The 13th Arkansas Infantry Regiment article refers to the 15th Arkansas Infantry (Johnson's) (in the Battles Section) it is red-linked. Is that the same Infantry as the 15th Arkansas Infantry article? If they are the same then it can be linked directly. I'm not familiar with the ACW Infantries, Divisions, etc. Adamdaley (talk) 06:03, 8 August 2011 (UTC)
- I fixed it. Numbering of Arkansas ACW regiments is tricky because there were so many duplicates. There were three (3) "15th Arkansas"s, four (4) if you count the Militia Regiment, so you really have to included the regimental commander it keep it all straight. Aleutian06 (talk) 17:56, 8 August 2011 (UTC)
- At least you know what you are doing with the different, ACW regiments, divisions etc. I have no clue. Keep up the good work. There are more red-linked article's I'll tell you to do find for me so I can see if I can help anywhere. Adamdaley (talk) 00:05, 9 August 2011 (UTC)
- With the "Organization" Section, I see you've put the people in charge of each section. Make sure that each Military rank is the same. For example "Lieutenant" maybe put as "Lt.", if another person has the same rank in another section it should be common to being consistent of such information throughout the article. Consistency should be maintained. Other than that, you're doing good with it. Adamdaley (talk) 06:23, 9 August 2011 (UTC)
- With the 3rd Regiment, Arkansas State Troops in the "Organization" section would like to have a couple more sources:
- At the beginning of the war, the Arkansas Succession Convention created the Provisional Army of Arkansas. The Provisional Army was to consist of two divisions: the 1st Division in the western part of the state was to be commanded by Brigadier General Pearce, and the 2nd Division in the eastern half of the state, commanded by Major General James Yell.[SOURCE NEEDED HERE] The intent of the Secession Convention was to transfer these state troop regiments into Confederate service as quickly as possible, to avoid the cost of paying for a large state army.[SOURCE NEEDED HERE] The troops of the eastern division were transferred to the command of Brigadier General Hardee in July 1861, but the troops of the western division under Brigadier General Pearce were not transferred to Confederate service before they became engaged in the Battle of Wilson's Creek.[SOURCE NEEDED HERE] The unit was composed of the following volunteer companies:[3]
Why? Because I'm going to do the "Class B" myself. WP:Arkansas doesn't seem to be moving very quickly under the Requesting Assessment section. If they don't like it then they can always revert my assessment. I'll keep doing my best to help you out. Adamdaley (talk) 07:44, 12 August 2011 (UTC)
- I added the references and an image of one of the companies. Thanks for the review!Aleutian06 (talk) 12:43, 19 October 2011 (UTC)
- Look at the discussion page on this article: 2nd Arkansas Light Artillery - See if you can improve on it. Adamdaley (talk) 07:51, 12 August 2011 (UTC)
- Roger, this article needs a major over haul, but I have a little more work to do on infantry units before I move on to the KING OF BATTLE!Aleutian06 (talk) 12:51, 19 October 2011 (UTC)

Disabling indexing on articles
editYou added {{noindex}} to several pages, for example here. What was the purpose of this? Do you understand what it does? Gurch (talk) 08:43, 20 September 2011 (UTC)
- I have not intentionally used this tag, but I think I know how it may have gotten there. I have a file on my User Talk page called User:Damon.cluck/Arkansas Confederate Infantry Unit Histories, which is really just a shell that I have used to create unit pages for Arkansas Civil War Units. It lets me copy and past the basic out line and a bunch of links and references that I have used repeatedly as I have created these pages. I have had a couple of people edit this shell in my User Space by mistake, so I assume that one of them realized that they were working on a userspace article and added the noindex tab so it wouldn't happen again. I probably copied the tag over as I created new unit history pages. That or some one came behind me and added the tag, becaue I wasn't aware of it until you pointed it out. Thanks! Is there a bot or somthing that could remove that tag? The articles that I may have unintentionally added it to are all listed on List of Arkansas Civil War Confederate units.Aleutian06 (talk) 12:30, 20 September 2011 (UTC)
6th Arkansas Infantry Regiment Article
editThe only problem I have with the 6th Arkansas Infantry Regiment, is the lead paragraph. Could that be expanded by two or three lines of information? Then I'll assess it. Keep up the good work. Adamdaley (talk) 01:08, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
- Done!
2nd Arkansas Mounted Rifles
editBeen talking to another Coordinator about the 2nd Arkansas Mounted Rifles. He's asked if you would have some time to log onto #freenode chat and go into a room called: #wikipedia-en-milhist ... That's a place where you can help from more people. While I'm more than willing to help you. Adamdaley (talk) 23:33, 29 September 2011 (UTC)
- I have made minor fixes to the article and questions about some other information that is unclear to me. Adamdaley (talk) 08:32, 30 September 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks! Certially willing to talk to anyone, but I am not familiar with #freenode Aleutian06 (talk) 12:42, 30 September 2011 (UTC)
- Damon.cluck - I was going over the article again, reading through it. I have a few questions. Is "Company A — 1st Arkansas Mounted Rifles" the very same Company as "Company B — 1st Arkansas Mounted Rifles", if so could they point to the same article? The same question applies too "Company C — 2nd Arkansas Mounted Rifles" and "Company D — 2nd Arkansas Mounted Rifles" and finally "Company H — 9th Arkansas Infantry" with "Company I — 9th Arkansas Infantry"? Is so, I can do those. Adamdaley (talk) 23:13, 1 October 2011 (UTC)
Regarding File:Governor Harris Flanigin.jpg
editI have removed File:Governor Harris Flanigin.jpg which you added to 2nd Arkansas Mounted Rifles with this edit, because it does not have a valid non-free media use rationale for the article. Please see Wikipedia:Non-free content criteria for the applicable policy and Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline if you want to address the issues. Thank you. 1st Arkansas Infantry Regiment
editI think this is B-class but I put it up on the assessment requests page to make sure. Good work. Wild Wolf (talk) 00:19, 19 October 2011 (UTC)
- Damon.cluck,
- In the Infobox, you have the first reference what battle is that pointing too? The one above or the one that the reference is beside the battle? Adamdaley (talk) 03:34, 19 October 2011 (UTC)
- I didn't create this article, but I think it is pointing to a PDF File that indicates that a 1st Arkansas Soldier was award the Confederate equilivant of the Medal of Honor for the action at Nashville. I will move the citation somewhere else.Aleutian06 (talk) 21:24, 19 October 2011 (UTC)
