Hello!!My name is Alexandre Bastos Penteado but please call me Alex. I am an interpreter/translator and instructor of English, Portuguese and Spanish. I also offer services as a Teacher of Portuguese as a Foreign Language, and as a cultural guide within Brazil. I live in Edmonton Alberta in Canada.I have been always interested in other cultures, languages, travel and history. My life has been guided by the desire to explore as fully as possible the world around me. Fluency in English and Spanish was, at first, the logical result of this lifelong curiosity. Through the years, I have been able to turn my passion for language and culture into my profession. The following is a brief summary of my qualifications:My concentration in English began in 1997, as a graduate of law from Pontifical Catholic University of Paraná (PUC-PR), and with a secondary degree in English from Centro Cultural Brasil – Estados Unidos de Curitiba. That same year, I began my second Bachelor’s in English from Universidade Federal do Paraná. In 1999, I furthered my cultural studies in London at the London Study Centre, earning the CPE (Certificate of Proficiency in English) from Cambridge University. I also studied in Scotland, particularly Celtic culture in Edinburgh, becoming dedicated to the study of traditional and linguistic phenomena within the United Kingdom. I returned to Brazil in 2000 and completed a course in translation and teaching methodology of English at PUC-PR. Since 2001, I have traveled numerous times to the United Stated, visiting 42 of 50 states.Last December I got the ECPE - Examination for Certificate of Proficiency in English from Michigan University in US. My grades at the Speaking, Writing and grammar papers were (H) honor. The Spanish language and culture have also been fields of interest for me, beginning in the early 90s while I lived in Buenos Aires, Argentina. In 2006, I completed the Cervantes Certificate (Intermediate) of Salamanca, receiving the Superior Certificate of Spanish Language from the University of Salamanca – Cervantes Institute, Spain in April of 2007. I have developed content for various travel and exchange agencies, including student exchange programs to Brisbain, Australia. Representing the city of Curitiba, I have served as an English/Portuguese interpreter at the eighth meeting of the United Nations’ Conference of the Parties at the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP 8), held in Curitiba in March 2006. I have also worked at the third meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Biosafety Protocol (COP-MOP 3), also in March 2006.http://www.cbd.int/meetings/cop8mop3/http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/CuritibaI have been a Rotarian since 2003 at Rotary Club Curitiba Oeste - District 4730. In 2009/2010 I held a position at my club as the Internatinal Exchange Officer and also an active participant at the International Affairs Avenue.I will be back to school this year 2012 to become a full high-school teacher in the Province of Alberta in Canada.
