I bonded with the World Book Encyclopedia soon after mastering Dr. Suess, and have liked encyclopedias ever since. I started using Wikipedia as my primary source of information for almost everything since its early existence but never got very far in learning how to be an editor until a reduction in work during the COVID-19 pandemic. After my first attempt to digest the detailed style guides and complicated policies, I realized that they can be pared down to a single idea: Make it sound like an encyclopedia article.
I think Wikipedia is a project of historical significance and very much admire the commitment of those who are avid editors. I may be one of them someday, but for now, I just make little corrections when I happen to see a problem while reading an article.
