Vance Powell is an American audio engineer and mixing engineer, born in Joplin, Missouri. He is a Grammy Award winner, and is most famous for his work on Jack White's various projects, as well as Jars of Clay's album, "The Eleventh Hour".[1]

Overview

Vance Powell began working with local touring bands, taking his first position in the studio in 1986 at Column One Studio in Springfield, Missouri. In 1992, Powell moved to Nashville, TN, accepting a position as a monitor engineer for Tammy Wynette. Not long after, he became the Front-of-House engineer and production manager for Wynette. In 1997, Vance Powell began work with Clair Brother's Audio, a sound reinforcement company. Shortly after (in 1998), Powell began his relationship with Jars of Clay as a Front-of-House engineer. Additionally, Powell and Jars of Clay worked on various recording projects, including Jars of Clay's album "The Eleventh Hour". In 2002, John McBride, creator of Blackbird Studios, asked Vance Powell to help to build and run Blackbird Studio, later becoming Chief Engineer. There, he recorded another Grammy Award-winner, Keb' Mo''s album Keep It Simple. [2] Powell is the co-owner of Sputnik Sound, located in Nashville, TN. He is currently a member of the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (NARAS).[3]

Powell won a Grammy Award for Best Engineered Album for his work on Consolers of the Lonely by The Raconteurs.
