Born in a small middle class family in the state of Odisha, he grew up amid new independent India. Right from his childhood he had shown leadership qualities by getting engaged in his village politics and then district politics. It is said when he went to a college called as Revanshaw College, he was the most loved and accepted Student Leader and gradually he became the President of the Odisha State Student Union. During the then Cheif Minister of Odisha, Mrs Nandini Satpathy, he was considered to be the blue eyes boys of the Chief Minister due to exemplary contribution to the society and the students community. Congress and the then Rshtriya Swayam Seva leaders always wanted Abhiram Behera to join there teams and from end politics in various fields. However, Abhiram Behera chose to be a officer in Paradaip Port , one of the major port of Odisha and said, "Politics if done in a good way , does not have any age barriers, I can always come back to Politics and serve the country". During his tenure at Paradip Port, he one of the most agile and respected officer. Most of his collegaue started saying him "ABHI BHAI" - someone who is lovable. During his service he found many irregularities in the payment of the working class and the exploitation which the state government and central government used to do with them. He took up the voice of the lower class and started taing up there matters to the labor commissioner who never ever helped the working class. This really upset Abhiram Behera and he went up to build up his trade union called as Pradaip Bandar Sramik Karmachari Union which meant the union of the working class and then on he was the most educated and learned individual who joined the trade union leadership and people loved him a lot.
Trade Union leader: Abhiram Behera was always keen to fight for the cause of common man. He founded many unions like Paradip bandar Sramik Karmachari Union, IFFCO Karmachari Union and SC-ST Association, Farmers Associations, etc.
Education : Abhiram went to Ravenshaw College, one of the most prestigous college in Odisha and then he moved on to do his MBA and LLB. He is specialist in Export and Import and International Business Management. Administrator: It is said there used to ZERO corruption in any department of the government where he was assigned. Known to be a excellent administrator, he has turned many loss making units to profot making units for the Central Government.
