editThe species is named after H. W. Bell-Marley who collected the original specimen, a single half-grown male. Afroedura marleyi is known as Marley se Platgeitjie in Afrikaans [1]
Description
editColour. Above, greyish white with a brownish tinge; a series of six dark brown irregular wavy bands over body and occiput; a dark streak on either side of head, running from nostril through eye, above the ear and fading out just anterior to the shoulder; irregular infuscation on head; ventrally, dirty white to creamish. Reproduced section of tail with irregular dark spots dorsally.
Dimensions. Head and body 30,5 mm. Length of head 8,0 mm. Tail 25,0, Breadth of head 6,5

- Original tail rounded or weakly flattened, not or faintly verticilate
- Dorsal scales smooth, rounded to flattened :dorsal scales not imbricate
- Internasal present: scale separating large nasals similar size to immediately adjacent scales
- Adults < 40 mm SVL
- Precloacal pores in males 10–14; midbody scale rows 88–99
Discussion. The above-described species seems to be closely allied to O. pondolia Hewitt, and may eventually prove to be only a subspecies thereof. Distribution records of Oedura species in the Transvaal Museum collection.
