Wilhelm Gustav Dyckerhoff (1805-1894) founded the cement company Lang & Co in Karlsruhe, Germany, in 1865. Only four years later, the company was renamed Dyckerhoff & Widmann AG (DYWIDAG)[2]. In the late 1970s, DSI (DYWIDAG-Systems International) was founded as a subsidiary of Dyckerhoff & Widmann AG (DYWIDAG).
The European private equity firm IK Investment Partners (formerly known as Industri Kapital) acquired DSI in 2005 and sold it two years later (2007) to CVC Capital Partners[3]. In 2011, DSI was sold to Triton. The private equity company restructured and split DSI in 2016 into two business units: DSI Construction and DSI Underground.
Today, DSI focuses on developing and producing intelligent ground support products, resin capsules, pumpable chemicals, and intelligent digital solutions and services, such as virtual reality training for underground mining and tunneling from EDVIRT.
In December 2020, Triton announced the sale of the company to Sandvik[4], a Swedish high-tech engineering and tooling company. Upon completing the acquisition on July 07, 2021[5], DSI Underground was integrated into the new Ground Support Division of Sandvik Mining and Rock Solutions[6].
