Noblis is a nonprofit, 501(c)(3), scientific research and engineering corporation headquartered in Falls Church, Virginia with numerous federal, state, and private sector clients. It employs scientists, engineers, and researchers within each business mission area of national security and intelligence, transportation, health innovations, enterprise services, and environmental sustainability.
Noblis works extensively with the Department of Defense, U.S. General Services Administration (GSA), National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), U.S. Army, Federal Transit Administration’s (FTA), Air Force, Army Health Facility Planning Agency (HFPA), Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), and other U.S. Government civil agencies and selected commercial markets.
Noblis was recognized as one of the 50 best small and medium companies to work for in America for 2009 by the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) and the Great Place to Work Institute, Inc. (GPTW). Noblis was named to the 2008’s “World’s Most Ethical Companies” list by the Ethisphere Institute at the Forbes, Ethisphere Joint Conference. On February 20, 2007 Noblis changed its name from Mitretek Systems to Noblis.
History
editIn 1996, Mitretek Systems was formed as a nonprofit corporation with a charter to perform research and engineering science and technology.
Between 1996 and 2006, Mitretek Systems focused on Y2K compliance, national security threats, chemical and biological warfare, electronic transactions, traffic congestion, patient safety, environmental sustainability, and renewed energy resources. Mitretek sponsored research projects included: analyzing and implementing technologies to keep information secure on the Internet, communicating voice and data by using Internet Protocol in the event of a national emergency, developing gaming technologies for first responders, and creating sick city scenarios to understand what happens during a naturally occurring, or terrorist-instigated biological event.
After 11 years as Mitretek Systems, the organization changed its name to Noblis in 2007.
