This is a proposal to insert a new section (either a web page or a pop-up box) into the Afc submission procedure to encourage new Afc acticle submitters to add reliable sources. It would reduce the number of articles that would be rejected immediately for being unsourced. I apologize for the poor graphics.

As you can see, the proposed procedure would NOT check to see if there were references (pretty tricky to implement without error), but the editor would have to be totally confused or actively lie or to get the article submitted without any. Users who did this repeatedly could easily be picked out for special attention. Please post your comments, supportive or otherwise, at User talk:Anne Delong/AfcBox.

STEP 1: USER CLICKS ON AFC SUBMIT BOX

STEP 3: Wait until the user makes a selection.

Did the user select A or G? YES → Display "Your article was not submitted." → END NO → Continue

Did the user select B? YES → Add "Category:Articles not submitted at AfC" → Go to "WP:Referencing for beginners" → END NO → Continue

Did the user select C? YES → Add "Category:Articles not submitted at AfC" → Go to "WP:Notability" → END NO → Continue

↓

Did the user select D? YES → Add "Category:Articles not submitted at AfC"→ Go to choice of "New Contributor's Help Page", "Help Desk", "Teahouse" or "WP:Suggested sources" → END NO → Continue

Did the user select E or F? YES → Go to STEP 4 NO → Continue

↓

Did the user perform some other action such as leaving the page? YES → Display message "Your article was not submitted." → END

STEP 4: Submit the article by existing process, which includes message "Your article has been submitted." → END
