No references to support link to Woodstock
editThe following names are frequently cited as Woodstock residents, but the evidence suggests that is not acccurate. Often, these individuals performed in Woodstock or went there to record at one of the local studios. Sometimes, these individuals performed at one of the Woodstock Music Festivals (none of which occurred in the town).
- Johnny Cash - singer/songwriter - Visited Bob Dylan at his home once, where the pair recorded some songs together. [227]
- Imani Coppola - singer/songwriter - Most sources describe her as "Brooklyn-based" [228] or more specifically reference that she lives in the Bed-Stuy neighborhood. [229]. She wrote a song called Woodstock, but the lyrics have nothing to do with the town.
- Mos Def - actor, poet, rapper - Came here to attend the Woodstock Film Festival, [230] but that appears to be only connection.
- Jimi Hendrix - guitarist - Presence in Woodstock is unconfirmed. Rumoured to have done some recording here. [231] [232]
- Janis Joplin - singer - Recorded her second album at Bearsville studio. [233]
- Donald McDonald (drummer) - drummer - Described as New York-based. [234]
- Thelonious Monk - jazz musician - Monk was born in North Carolina and moved to New York City at age 4. By all accounts he lived there for most of his life. [235] [236] He spent the last few years of his life living in New Jersey. [237]
- David Peel - member of The Lower East Side Band|| Peel is usually described as "New York based," [238][239]
- Bonnie Raitt||singer/songwriter - Performed in town and may have done some recording here, but no references for that. Here bio suggests that other than her college years in Massachusetts, she has spent most of her life living in Los Angeles. [240]
- Tom Rapp - singer for Pearls Before Swine - Born in North Dakota, grew up in Minnesota, and has also lived in Florida Massachusetts, and The Netherlands. [241].Tom told me in person that he lived in woodstock in about 1971.
- Carlos Santana, Ravi Shankar: these folks played at the Woodstock Festival. Is there any other connection?
