The Olympic flag, designed in 1913 by Pierre de Coubertin, is one of the symbols of the modern Olympic Games. It consists of a rectangular white banner bearing five interlocking rings of different colors (blue, yellow, black, green and red).
Symbolism
editLes cinq anneaux entrelacés représentent les cinq continents unis par l’olympisme, et les six couleurs (en comptant le blanc en arrière-plan) représentent toutes les nations, car au moins l’une de ces couleurs était présente dans le drapeau de chaque pays à l'époque de sa création en 1913. Ainsi ce drapeau est le symbole de l’universalité de l’esprit olympique[1].
The five intertwined rings represent the five continents united by Olympism, and the six colours (including white in the background) represent all nations, as at least one of these colours was present in the flag of each country at the time of its creation in 1913. Thus, this flag is the symbol of the universality of the Olympic spirit.
