About me

My name is Drew Iversen, I am a college student trying to get my AA degree. I enjoy playing video games, working out, and running. I don't have any special or unique hobbies, but I believe they are all good stress relievers and can be very fun individually. Exercising in a gym setting can help control your weight in a good way, I have always had trouble gaining weight because I have a fast metabolism, and going to the gym has been able to help me directly, and by proxy.

My Wikipedia interests

I use Wikipedia like a very standard user would use Wikipedia. I use it to find credible sources for assignments or to win an argument. If I visit Wikipedia in the future it will be to add a source to an assignment or get more information on any given subject.

Article Evaluation

I was interested on the topic of dogs so I started doing some research on it looking for a more specific Wikipedia article to comment on. I have always been interested in this topic because my family has multiple dogs, and always has. I started to look for specific breeds and landed on Cocker Spaniel, since we have one. I visited the Cocker Spaniel article on Wikipedia, and found three aspects of it worth commenting on: some of the information isn't cited properly, it is missing valuable information regarding the habits/personality of the dog, and history of the dog breed heavily outweighs the rest of the article.

The article doesn't have citations for everything they say. For example, the article states "In the United States, the English Cocker was recognized as separate from the native breed in 1946; in the UK, the American type was recognized as a separate breed in 1970." However, the article does not back this up with evidence or link it to any other Wikipedia article. This article is one that does not have enough verifiability in its paragraphs.

This article has notable information but not enough of it. This article mentions the history of the breed Cocker Spaniel, and generic information on the two subspecies. It does not mention any information regarding what the dog species is like to own or what you can expect from the species in modern society. A person researching information on dogs would be delighted to know things such as how much they shed, and statistically how safe they are with kids.

Finally, the history of Cocker Spaniels heavily outweighs everything else in the article. It seems completely over represented. There are only two sections under "Contents" in this article that have paragraphs you can read under them. They are "history" and "modern breeds". Under modern breeds, it has a couple paragraphs about colors and later on it mentions the sizes of the two breeds respectively. However, most of this information I would still consider history. Such as, "Cocker Spaniels were recognized by the AKC in 1878. Generally smaller than the English, separate classes were created for the two types in America in 1935 and the Cocker Spaniel Club of America discouraged breeding between the two types in 1938." This shows that even outside of the history section of this article it still brings up to a point where it outnumbers other topics in the article.

Throughout this Wikipedia article it gave information about the dog breed Cocker Spaniel. It was worth noting that it didn't cite some of the information properly, it is missing valuable information regarding the habits/personality of the dog, and history of the dog breed heavily outweighs the rest of the article. Overall it was an article that gets updated regularly and had good references, when it did use them.
