It is the Queensland Government statutory authority responsible for maintaining the Queensland Heritage Register.
History

editThe Queensland Heritage Council was constituted as a statutory body under the "Queensland Heritage Act 1992", assuming responsibility for the creation and maintenance of the Queensland Heritage Register, a record of State heritage places, archaeological places and protected areas. The Heritage Council replaced the Heritage Committee that had been constituted under the Heritage Buildings Protection Act 1990.[1]

Function

- * to provide strategic advice to the Minister about matters relating to Queensland’s cultural heritage, including, for example, measures necessary to conserve Queensland’s cultural heritage
- * to provide information to the community to encourage interest in, and understanding of, Queensland’s cultural heritage
- * to advise entities about conserving Queensland’s cultural heritage, including, for example, government entities and community organisations
- * to encourage the appropriate management of places of cultural heritage significance
- * to perform other functions given to the council under the Act or by the Minister.
