On July 3, 1847, Edward William Burke, priest, president of Carlow College, and founder of St. Joseph's Academy, was born in Clane, County Kildare of Ireland. He attended Carlow College and shortly after, he went Maynooth college, where he became an ordained priest. After one year in Dunboyne Institute, he has accomplished the following: professor in Carlow College, vice-president of Carlow College, president of Carlow College, and parish priest of Bagenalstown, County Carlow, and the establishment of St. Joseph's Academy. On November 10, 1915, Burke passed away.
