Linear Air is an online air taxi and booking platform that connects commercially licensed operators of 3-8 passenger turbine and piston-engined aircraft with passengers seeking air travel for regional trips not well-served by commercial airlines. [1] [2] The company is headquartered in Bedford, Massachusetts, and serves the United States, Canada, and the Caribbean. [3]

History

edit

Linear Air was founded in 2004 and started out as a whole plane charter serving clients in the Boston and New York regions. [4] The company initially launched with a fleet of Cessna Caravan turboprops, eventually adding several Eclipse 500 very light jets. [5] Linear Air evolved over the next couple of years to serving small corporate teams traveling to visit clients or flying to remote offices or factories. They expanded to cities San Francisco, Los Angeles and Washington. [6] With the economic collapse of 2008 and the bankruptcy of their jet supplier Eclipse Aviation, Linear Air began a pivot from the Eclipse 500 fleet model, and in 2013 Linear Air launched a new online marketplace that focused on marketing the Cirrus SR22 and the remainder of the Eclipse 500 jets. The marketplace created a partnership between Linear Air and independent operators to provide private air travel. [7]

Services

edit

Linear Air provides on-demand, whole plane, charter travel to airports that are typically underserved by commercial airlines. The company provides a variety of FAA-certified Technically Advanced Aircraft classes that consist of different passenger capacity, speeds, distances and prices. [8][9]

Partnership

edit

Linear Air partners with independent operators throughout the United States, Canada and the Caribbean. In 2012 Linear Air partnered with travel search site Hipmunk to offer travel from nine origin airports to over 2,000 regional airports within 700 miles from the origination of the flight. [10] The company subsequently partnered with travel search site Kayak.com. [11] On November 15, 2017, going live on the Amadeus platform, Linear Air became one of the first air taxi companies to start distribution via a GDS (Global Distribution System). [12][13]
