Bio
editAbout me
editSome of my hobbies include playing sports, especially baseball and basketball, playing video games, and hanging out with my friends. Baseball is my main sport. I am committed to Oregon State University to play baseball there next year. On the basketball side, I just play for my high school, but that is a pretty high level of ball too. While gaming, the brain receives multiple stimulations, both Visual and audial. Individuals who play video games frequently can process these stimulators faster than others[1]. Some video games that I enjoy playing are Call of Duty and NBA 2k. With my friends, I like to do a lot of things with them from going out to get food to fishing.
My Wikipedia interests
editIf I were to end up working on content long term on Wikipedia, I would definitely be editing and creating pages about sports. From players to teams to coaches. I love everything about sports and could definitely see myself working on anything sports related. Although, it would be between either baseball, basketball or football because I do not pay attention to any other sports. As a volunteer, I hope to accomplish learning more about how the site works and to learn how to do different things that I didn't know how to do before.
Article Evaluation
editThe topic that I chose for my article evaluation is Marysville, Wa. This is the city that I live in, so I thought it would only make sense for me to choose this. I visited the Marysville, Washington article on Wikipedia, and found three aspects of it worth commenting on: the article is not up to date, each fact is cited with a reliable source, and there is nothing left out that should be in there.
One of the first things I noticed when reading the article was that it is outdated. In the first paragraph, it uses facts from the year 2010 and 2015. It says "with a population of 60,020 in the 2010 U.S. census." That was 10 years ago so it is not up to date. Another part that is outdated is when it says "As of 2015, Marysville is also the fastest-growing city in Washington state." This fact is five years ago and could be different today. Find those two sentences here.
Next, even though some things are outdates, each fact has a reliable source. For example, when the article states the population of Marysville, it uses the U.S. census as its source. It gives a wikilink to an article about the U.S. census and we also know the census is reliable because it is run by the government.
The last aspect that I want to comment on is that they did not leave anything out that should be in there. In the article, they told people everything they need to know about Marysville. They commented on where it is, what county it is in, the population of the city and more. They talked about one of the most important things about the city which is when it was founded, who founded it, and why it was founded. At first I didn't think they would talk about which cities or places border it but towards the end of the article they state that it is bordered by the Tulalip Indian Reservation to the west and State Route 9 to the east. To me, they included everything that was necessary when wanting to know more about Marysville.
All in all, the article was fairly well written. It was out of date but each fact had a reliable source and there was nothing left out.
