Hi, I'm Arick Grootveld, a PhD student at Syracuse University (SU), studying information theory and theoretical computer science. I do research on hypothesis testing in both classical and quantum settings, with a focus on universal hypothesis testing.
I got on Wikipedia because I noticed that some articles related to my research area were missing important details, and I wanted to change that. I'm trying to add more articles about basic concepts in information theory, and improve existing articles that are a bit out of date. I also like writing about people and their contributions to the field of information theory.
Here's a bit of my background (for conflicts of interest): At SU I worked with Biao Chen, Pramod Varshney, Jason Pollack, and Venkata Gandikota. I briefly worked on a research project involving the Saab corporation while at SU[1], though I was never directly employed there. While getting my undergraduate degree at Western Washington University, I worked with Andrew G. Klein.

TODO List
[edit source]This is a list of edits I plan to make and new articles I intend to make:
- Generalized quantum stein's lemma: This needs to be improved significantly
- Error exponents in hypothesis testing: Add a section on strong converse exponents, connect all the rates via information geometry, and add some details about the ramifications and utility of hypothesis testing error exponents
- Sufficient statistic: Make the connection between sufficient statistics and hypothesis testing clearer (maybe this would be better served on the hypothesis testing page?)
- Entanglement_distillation: Add the connection to generalized quantum Stein's lemma
- Quantum tomography: Describe Keyl's algorithm, and sample optimal tomography results
- Change_detection: Update it to include some details on universal change detection and quantum change detection
- Method of types: Clear out some of the unnecessary references
- Ludivico Lami
- Quantum hypothesis testing
- Hypothesis Exclusion
- Hoeffding divergence
- Hunt-Stein theorem
- Reverse relative entropy
- Quantum channel discrimination
- Ingster–Suslina method [2]
