Lampo was Lampo-class destroyer of Regia Marina, the navy of Kingdom of Italy. She was the first ship of its class, and served between 1900 and 1920. The ship participated in the Italo-Turkish War and the World War I.
History
editLampo was the first ship of its class of 6 identical destroyers. She was the second destroyer built for the Regia Marina, the navy of Kingdom of Italy. She was designed and constructed in Elbing, German Empire (now Elbląg, Poland), in the Schichau-Werke shipyard. The construction began on 16 May 1899, and the ship was launched on 23 June 1900. The ship served in the Italo-Turkish War, which took place between 1911 and 1912. During World War I the ship was stationed in Tripoli, and was a part of 6th Destroyer Squadron, together with ships Ostro, Euro, Dardo, and Strale. As by now, she was an old and outdated unit, it had seen little use during the war. In 1915, Lampo was modified into minelayer, being equipped with 12 naval mines. She served in that role until 1918. The ship was removed from service on 18 March 1920 and was subsequently scraped.
