State of Fear is a novel by Michael Crighton in which via a fictional narrative presents "real" scientific evidence that supports his central thesis:
- The science for or against global warming or other types of climate change is not sufficently well documented and/or agreed on to base policy on
- As a species (especially Westerners) we have a very bad track record of managing complex systems we do not understand well
- When science and politics collide when the science is shaky at best the results are almost always bad (gives two examples besides climate change in a appendix)
