Spheroolithus irenensis is an oospecies of dinosaur egg whose classification has a somewhat confused history, as it is sometimes considered to be the sole oospecies of its own oogenus, Paraspheroolithus.[1]
Description
editParaspheroolithus is separated from Spheroolithus because its eggs are more ellipsoidal, whereas Spheroolithus eggs are spherical. Many authors do not consider this sufficient basis to separate oogenera, because even within a single clutch, the elongation index of eggs can vary significantly.[2]
