Introduction :

Many Assamese scientists have been able to make a name for themselves in the international arena and have contributed to the flourishing of Assamese society. Dr. Sarbeswar Bujbaruwah is one of the Assamese scientists.

Education :

Dr. Sarbeshwar Bujarbaruah was born in 1948. He started his school life at Chenikuthi Primary School in Guwahati. After that he passed the entrance examination from M.C.ME and Cotton Collegiate School respectively and passed B.Sc from Cotton College and M.Sc from Delhi University in Physics. While he was teaching at Cotton College, he was inspired by a lecture on plasma physics by Anath Chandra Das.When he expressed his views to Anath Chanda Das, Dasdev apporval to apply at the Physical Research Laboratory in Ahmedabad.

Working :

After this he went to Ahmedabad and started his research work . In 1977, he received his Ph.D. degree in "Parametrvie Interaction of Waves in a Magnetized Plasma" from Gujarat University gained. After this he resigned from Dibrugarh University and joined " Advanced Science and Technology " started by Assam Science Society for only Rs.2000. During his stay in Dibrugarh, the project was approved by the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO), although it was initiated at IASST. He started his research work in a very small area in the midst of great difficulties and he had lead the work in the midst of many difficulties. While researching at IASST, Cotton College classmate Jayanti Chutia expressed interest in doing research on plasma physics. It was with this interest that Bujarbaruah pursued his research.Subsequently, an application was made to the Government of Assam to provide the amount as a research center at IASST,but no such program was implemented. He tried his best to provide funding for research through various projects on his own. Later, when Ashok Saikia became the Commissioner of the Education Department, he was able to set up a 'Center of Plasma Physics' by his grace. He got some relief from this program established in 1991.

Achievement :

In the same year, he received his D.S.C. degree from Guwahati University gained. From 1991 to 1993 he was the Director of the Center of Plasma, from 1993 to 2010 he was the Director and Professor. During that time, 15 graduates received their Ph.D. degrees and and publish eight research projects and 87 research papers nationally and internationally. He has been awarded at various times for his dedicated research. In 1989, Vikram Charbhai National Award, 1993, Kamal Kumari National Award, and in 2018, he was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award by the Government of Assam.
