TVOvermind is a television-based website, which generates frequently updated content about television programs in the U.S., Canada, and United Kingdom. The website publishes information about celebrity interviews, episode recaps, reviews, original scheduled columns, as well as all television related news through daily articles. TVOvermind also hosts a network of more specific and defined sites dedicated to specific shows and communities of fans, such as Docarzt.com for fans of the television show Lost, and Walter's Lab for fans of the television show Fringe. TVOvermind is owned by Aggressor Media.

History

edit

TVOvermind was co-founded in 2008 by Jon Lachonis and Bryan Jones. The pair met through an online community of fans of the television series Lost. Lachonis ran an existing and popular Lost website known as Docarzt & Friends LOST Blog at the time. Both Jones and Lachonis began sharing ideas that each of them had to design and maintain television focused websites that would feature news, interviews, recaps, and weekly columns all relating to television series past and present. After realizing the similarities that each one of their individual projects had, the two decided to join together and create a single Television site which incorporated all of the elements that each of them had sought independently. The pair also began to envision a community discussion portal where fans of the shows could congregate and discuss their likes and dislikes, with special attention paid to users of social networks, such as Facebook, being able to more easily access the user portal of the site. Lachonis planned to handle the technical aspects of the site, and Jones focused on finding quality bloggers, columnists, and recappers to provide ongoing content.

On January 15, 2009, TVOvermind.com was launched. The inspiration for the name of the site was two-fold, the first being TVOvermind, which was the envisioning of an all-powerful or controlling brain, which guided all of television in the same way that the Architect in the Matrix films guided humanity through their altered state. The second concept of the name was TV Over Mind, which followed along the concept of mind over matter, but in this case, it is television ruling over our mind. Neither of these concepts is more accurate than the other, and it is left to the discretion of the visitors and fans of the site to determine which meaning they prefer. The site's tagline is Where Television Rules.
