Wood Island is a small island in the Bay of Fundy, located to the east of Grand Manan.
History
editSamuel de Champlain and Pontgrave were driven ashore on the island in March of 1606, after anchoring in Seal Cove. They returned to Port Royal for repairs.[1]
On 20 March 1871, the Schooner Anna was wrecked on the island. Two of her crew were lost. She was on a voyage from Saint John, New Brunswick to Boston, Massachusetts.[2]
The island hosted a thriving fishing community named Greens Landing[3] until 1959, when fish stocks declined. Most residents moved to Grand Manan.[4] The only access to the island is by boat.[5]
The island is home to Metrioptera roeselii.[6]
