Summary
editThe article I have decided to do is on the Philosophy of Technology. This particular article focuses on the social effects of the evolutionary change of technology. Mainly focusing on particular technological advances in history, and answering the question of "has this been beneficial or not to humanity?" Although the article is a bit short, it has some very prominent technological changes throughout history. Unfortunately, it focuses too much on European, and German history, and does not focus on many other parts of the world. Also, the article could use some more female representation as well. Overall the article does what it intends to do, however it could use some work to add to it.

editAssignment 6
edit- Philosophy of Technology
- The key ideas of this article pertain to the social effects of technology, and whether it has helped humanity or not.
- The main problems identified in this article is, it focuses too much on technological changes in certain places, and not the rest of the world, and does not have any representation to underrepresented people.
- This article was worth undertaking because I believe I can add more places around the world where technology has flourished.
- The entire article focuses on technological standpoints, describing the technology that was prevalent in each time period.
- The ethical standpoints are whether the flourishment of technology was good for society or not.
- The societal standpoints focus on the specific technology of that time period and region, and how it affected them.
8.I would say this article affects all audiences. We all use technology in our every day lives, and we wouldn't be able to if it wasn't for the technological advances in the past, and those that critique it
Assignment 7
edit. The philosophy of technology is a very broad subject and topic of discussion. It's a subject that dates back to when man first started making tools. All throughout human history, we have dealt with technology, whether it flourishes, or diminishes, or becomes obsolete. This subject deals with the philosophy of those states of technology. Whether it has been beneficial or detrimental to society and humans as a whole. This article as a whole does a good job of explaining that, breaking it up into categories of different ages, such as Greek philosophy, the middle ages, and the nineteenth century to the present. Unfortunately, the categories don't go into as much detail as they could. For such a broad subject, the paragraphs are incredibly short. I also believe the article could benefit from having different categories of specific areas, such as technology in the middle east at a certain time period for example. The article focuses a lot on German, and European technology, and not much else. So, I think this article would do well to focus more on other countries, as well as underrepresented peoples and places. For example, the article focuses a lot on male philosophers, but it would be much better and more inclusive if females were included as well. So as the article currently stands, is very European based, and focuses on the Western impact of technology far too much. It would do well to also focus on eastern countries as well, and include female participation. One praise of this article, however, is the introduction section of the article. It's very concise and to the point, it does a good job of explaining itself in just a couple of sentences. Once you get into the actual article, however, it leaves you desiring for more. The information that is there already is good but doesn't offer much. If one wanted to know about a certain country during a certain time period, they would have to search elsewhere because this article does not have much in terms of that. So as I said earlier, the one thing that would really help this article flourish is the addition of countries, and not just those in the west, but the east as well, and the philosophers over there, and the addition of females. However, onto the main subject of the article, the philosophy of technology. As you go throughout the article, you will find different time periods, all with different philosophers explaining their points of view on technology. They give their reasons as to why they think it has been positive or negative for society as a whole. One could praise the article for having a good mix of philosophers, some having positive opinions, and others having negative opinions on technology. However, much like I said earlier, the article could use some philosophers from other countries as well as female philosophers to mix it up, and not be so Eurocentric. Overall, the article as it stands is a good starting point, but could definitely use some work in a lot of places.
