Welcome to my page!

My name is Ayesha, I am a native English speaker. I speak Japanese fluently and have passed the JLPT at the N2 level. I am also learning Spanish and I am currently at an intermediate level.

I have fond memories of spending my time getting lost in books at the library as a child. Reading about the cultures and things I one day hoped to see; borrowing as many books as I was allowed to leave with. I find that my love of reading has always been linked to my love of travel. Both to worlds that were fictional, and many that were not. I have always had an interest, not only in the world around me, but also the world that I couldn't see. The world as it is now, and as it was in our past. Not just of the place were I was born, but also in other countries near and far.

My love to read developed into a love to travel, further developing into a love to learn about language and culture. As I learned how closely language and culture are interconnected, I began to study language. I have studied Japanese and Spanish for over ten years. I've also had the opportunity to not only visit, but live in some of those places I read about as a child. Studying language, combined with my love of travel and reading naturally pulled me into the career of translation.

And so my love of translation has led me to volunteering as a translator on Wikipedia. After all, thanks to online encyclopedias like Wikipedia, we are no longer limited by the number of books we are allowed to carry out of the library. Now matter who we are- and now thanks to available translations- no matter what language we speak, we can get lost reading about the cultures and the things we one day hope to see.
