Natasha Boas, Ph.D
editNatasha Boas (née Pamela Natasha Leof) was born November 20, 1964, and is a French-American San Francisco based contemporary art historian, curator[1], writer, and professor.
Education
editBoas received her B.A. with Honors in 1988 at the University of California, Berkeley, in Art History and Comparative Literature. She was the recipient of the Andrew Mellon Fellowship in the Humanities in 1987 and received her Ph.D with distinction from Yale University in 1996.
Career
editBoas has curated nationally and internationally for such institutions as the American Center in Paris, The Centre Georges Pompidou, Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, New Langton Arts, and the Museum of Craft and Folk Art in San Francisco. She has worked on major museum projects with architects Frank Gehry (American Center, Paris) and Michael Maltzan[2] (Sonoma County Museum, Santa Rosa).
Boas has contributed articles and interviews to Dwell Magazine, Domino-(a Conde Nast publication), French Vogue[3], Juxtapoz[4], Artforum, Chronicle Books[5] and others along with many exhibition catalogs. She is a regular contributor to The Believer Magazine and has contributed the “Partial and Incomplete Oral History of the Mission School” for the Barry McGee retrospective at BAMPFA.[6]
Dr. Boas has taught at Yale University, the San Francisco Art Institute and was a member of the founding faculty with Ralph Rugoff and Kate Fowle for the California College of Arts Curatorial Practice Masters program.[7]
In 2011, the Museum of Craft and Folk Art, where she is now curator, was the recipient of a grant from The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts.[8]
Personal Life
editBoas is married to John Boas, and resides in Mill Valley, CA.
