Baba Kala Mahar lived at the time of Baba Gorakh Nath.Kala Mahar was a man of short stature, but was very strong ,very agile with quick reflections. Over a dispute of a buffalo, leased to Bhatties of Zira for a short time and on expiry of that period, the bufflow was not returned due to malice of Bhatties and that they were proved to be wrong in a social gathering, Bhatties decided to kill Kala Mahar by poisoning his food through his pandit cook. When attacked by Bhatties ,Kala Mahar, though in semi conscious state, fought with them with almost severed head and chased them to many miles. He fell dead when some women, colouring clothes in black water, threw that water on his body. Before dying, Kala Mahar is supposed to have desired that memorial be built in his memory and that no Pandit and a person with black robes be permitted to worship there.
