DHARMA PUJA

edit

Dharma puja is associated with the god of religion.Manasa puja rules finds about the god of religion. This puja is prevalent in Darrang, Kamrup etc.Manasa and Sheetala as well as dharma deities are also worshipped in this puja.

As soon as the puja is performed,Ojapali recites the puja verse while he sits down.Ojapali also started worshiping as soon as the priest started worshipping the god of religion.Mankar's manasa song also gives a glimpse of the fact that dharma puja is associated with manasa puja.Sukvi Narayan dev's Padmapurana talks about religious gods in various context. The place of dharma deity is also seen among the pati-rabha's.Hindus are seen worshipping the god of religion in connection with the manasa or mare puja prevalent in the society of elders and butchers.there is a description of the creation in sunyo puranas in the context of the birth of the deity of religion. The similarity of the creation description described in sunyo puranas with the ceation description performed in Mankar's manasa songs, guptamani etc cannot be denied. It can be inferred from this that worship and worship of dharma deity has been traditionally prevalemt in the folk community of Assam. The people of assam have no influence on the religion deityn even in their lives. The tradition of dharma puja is still associated with manasa or mare puja. The Kurmarupi dharmadeva was worshipped in some areas of Darrang and presently Kamrup's Patidarrang.
