Hand & Teeth were an experimental indie rock band from Toronto, Ontario that was active between 2010 – 2014. Members included Derek Monson – bass/vocals, Kevin Black – Guitar/vocals, Natasha Pasternak – Guitar/Keyboard/Vocals, Jeff Pinto – Keyboard/Vocals, and Adam Kolubisnki – Drums. They played their first show at C'est What? in 2010.[1] Their music was featured on MTV in Jersey Shore, Catfish, and Beauty & the Beast.[2][3] Four out of five members sang lead vocals, which was described as a challenge by the band.[4]
Recordings
editThe band recorded an EP called Enjoy Your Lifestyle which was produced by Laurence Currie (Sloan, Wintersleep) and had contributing vocals from Lisa Lobsinger (Broken Social Scene).[5] Their second offering, an LP called Hunting Season was self produced with mixing duties taken up by Currie. However, following a cross-Canada tour with dates in the US, Jeff Pinto left the band in late 2012 to pursue his own project, Gursky.[6] Following the split, the remaining members recorded a five song EP called Before the Light at Ill Eagle Studio with Carlin Nicholson and Mike O'Brien of Zeus.[7]A music video directed by Roman Tchjen was created for "Easy" from their third release Before the Light.[8]
Break-up
editAfter the release of a final two-song 7-inch stream entitled "Cactus" / "Poseidon" the band gave this statement: "The four of us have mutually and amicably agreed the time has come for each of us [sic] move on to other ventures".[9] After the disbandment, Kevin Black joined the indie rock band Fast Romantics, and Natasha Pasternak began her own solo project.
