Mahbub Haque
Following the cyclone Sidr on the night of 15 November 2007 in southern Bangladesh, there has been a heightened activity nationally and internationally for recovery of the affected area and the people. And there is also a heightened search for a model or models for reconstruction of shelters. By and large the efforts have been directed to immediate reconstruction, which in most cases is not robust enough to withstand a cyclone. In the long term people will like to have comfort and security of house that will survive cyclone and flood and protect their lives and assets. Three schemes are presented here, which attempt to address some of the causes of concern with the present cyclone shelters.
