Weathership (stylised in all caps) are an alt rock 5 piece from Teesside, formed from the dark of lockdown and the duality between love and fear.
Told from the point of view of the crew of an expedition ship, they tell stories of loss, love and heartbreak.
Forming in 2022 and putting on a xmas show to 12 people, the band have gone from strength to strength.
From selling out their own show out and selected as Danielle Perry’s first unsigned band of the month on Absolute Radio in April 2023.
History
edit2021: Formation
editDuring both lockdowns in the UK, sing songwriter J.P. Riggall enlisted the help of his friends 'Snowy' and 'Ian Dixon' to record parts of his album Hotel Wilderness using left over songs and drum samples by 'David Purton'from previous projects the album was but with a plethora of guitars.
On return to normality the band started practicing said songs and discovered they covered do all the guitar parts, enlisting long time collaborator 'Nick Hodgman' on additional guitars.
2022: Early gigs and no name
editDuring the start of 2022 the band eventually came upon the name after a long walk at Seaton Carew.
The band had at this point recorded versions of New Occupation and Lost At Sea and began playing gig, filling their set with songs from 'Hotel Wilderness'.
Finding gigs hard to come by due to post pandemic measure the band put on a small show at Xmas 2022, this was attended by 12 people plus bar staff and acts. The band then finished a new single The Blue which made its way on to Danielle Perry'sSunday show on Absolute Radio for the duration of April 2023. Garnering much local support the band opened up Stockton Calling 2023, filling the same stage they only managed to get 12 people to prior.
The year finished with more gigs and slow at 'Twisterella Festival' in Middlesbrough.
2024: Splendid Beast
editAfter more gigs in 2024, the band finished recording their first long player with producer 'Jamie Donelly' and released the single 'The Swimmer' on Butterly Effect Lable as a limited edition 7", selling out in 24 hours.
On November 15th they released Splendid Beast to a rapturous response at a sold out show at 'The Georgian Theatre'

editWeathership are considered one of the top North East live acts, championed by local media such as 'Narc' and 'NE Volume'. Known for their big dynamics and soundscapes pouring on heartfelt lyrics.
